Sweatpants you can wear outside the house. These Essentials pairs are cut from the same heavyweight fleece as the hoodies, with a wide waistband, a flat drawcord and a leg that tapers just enough to sit clean over a trainer instead of pooling on top of it.

Eight pairs are in stock right now in two silhouettes: the classic tapered track pant and the relaxed straight-leg, plus a women’s cut and the 1977 edition. Classic or relaxed: pick your leg first

Both fits share the same fleece, waistband and pocket layout. The difference is entirely in the leg, and it decides how the whole outfit reads.

Classic track pant

Tapered from the knee down to an elasticated cuff. Stacks lightly at the ankle and shows the whole shoe. This is the pair that matches the tracksuit hoodies and the one most people buy first. Black, Brown, 1977 Black, Light Oatmeal, Coral.

Relaxed straight-leg

Wider through the thigh and straight to an open hem that breaks over the shoe. Looser, longer, more of a trouser silhouette. Black Heather and Concrete.

Women's classic

Same taper as the classic, with a higher rise and a shorter inseam so the cuff lands at the ankle without rolling. Crimson.

Quick rule: low-top trainers and a matching hoodie → classic. Chunky shoes, boots or an oversized tee → relaxed. If you're buying a pair to go with a hoodie you already own, classic is the safer call.

BrownDeep chocolate. Works with cream, oatmeal or black on top. Reads expensive.

Light OatmealPale greige. The lightest pair; keep for dry days and pair with a darker hoodie.

Black Heather & ConcreteMarled charcoal body with a lighter grey panel. Hides winter salt marks better than flat black.

CoralSoft salmon-pink. Unisex. Surprisingly easy with a white or black tee.

CrimsonDeep red on the women's cut. Pairs with black, cream or grey on top.

Sizing and length

Waist is forgiving thanks to the elastic and drawcord. Length is the thing to get right, especially on the classic taper, where a cuff that's too long bunches instead of stacking.

Buying with a hoodie? Take the same letter size in both. The rise is cut so the hoodie hem and the waistband overlap by a few centimetres, which only works when the two are matched.

Keeping the shape

Fleece sweatpants lose their shape in two places: the knee and the cuff. Both are caused by heat, not wear.

Cold wash, inside out, with the drawcord tied
Tumble low or hang to dry; high heat shrinks the cuffs first
No fabric softener, it flattens the brushed inside
Wash with the matching hoodie so both fade at the same rate

Common questions

What's the difference between Essentials track pants and sweatpants?

On this site they're the same heavyweight fleece. "Track pants" is the tapered, cuffed fit; "Sweatpants" is the same fit sold on its own. The relaxed straight-leg is the only pair with an open hem.

Do Essentials sweatpants run big?

The waist is relaxed but the elastic and drawcord handle it. Most people take their usual size. Shorter customers size down on the classic taper for a cleaner ankle; taller customers size up on the relaxed fit for length.

Are these the same pants that come with the tracksuit?

Yes. The classic track pants in black, brown and oatmeal are the bottoms from the matching tracksuit sets, sold separately here so you can pair them with a hoodie you already have.

Can I wear them in a Canadian winter?

From November to March they work under a long coat with boots. The heavyweight fleece is warm enough for a cold commute, though they're not windproof, so treat them as a layer on the coldest days.

Is the coral pair unisex?

Yes. Coral uses the standard classic fit. Only the Crimson pair is cut specifically as a women's size run.
